Wellington Winter Champs 2010

Date:
Sat, 31/07/2010 - 08:30 - Sun, 01/08/2010 - 16:00

It's back!

Once again, the Lazy Seals will be hosting the annual Wellington Winter Champs at the end of July. It's a chance for freedivers both from the club and around the country to show everyone (and themselves) what they've got. There will be a ranked competition grade as well as a recreational option and a range of experience in competitors from first-timers through to world champions and record holders, with everyone welcome.

Competition organiser and top athlete Kathryn McPhee always puts on a good show, so get involved! If you're thinking of competing or want to help out, please contact us.

Results

Well, the results are in!

It was an eventful competition, with the frighteningly calm mister Mullins unofficially beating the current dynamic world record and several personal bests from other divers. Kathryn McPhee posted a 154m no fins this morning, but got a red card for a minor technicality which has been referred to the head judge of AIDA.

Some other points of note:
Tania Wong: 4:23 STA
Adelene Lynch: 74m DYN & 4:50 STA
Chris Phelps: 105m DNF & 5:31 STA
Chris Mackie: 130m DNF (DQ airways)
Mal Bird: 151m DYN
All PBs in their first ever competition! Big congratulations to all our new divers for their great success. The last three in particular are no longer allowed to compete in recreation grade anymore!

Thanks to Kathryn for organising, Ben & Rex for assisting & running errands, our officials (Tracey, Braedon, Bridget, Guy & Phil) for judging and medic duties, Tammy and Peach for safety diving and all our other helpers too. A final thank you to the athletes for taking part and I hope to see you all competing in the future too.

See you in the water,
Chris
